JOB DESCRIPTION: Workskhop Instructor or Facilitator
4-H offers many short-term educational programs that teach subject-matter skills and knoweldge to 4-H youth. These workshops are generally held after school, in the evenings or on weekends. Volunteers determine the number of participants and establish the grade limits for their workshop. Most classes are offered to children in one of four grade divisions: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, or 9-12. 4-H will charge participants a nominal fee to cover the cost of supplies for the workshop.
A wide range of topics are offered, depending on the volunteers available, and their skills. Examples are: sewing, woodworking, horticulture, electricity, quilting, beekeeping , or computers. For many topics, 4-H has leaders' guides, with prepared lesson plans, and members manuals available. If you are willing to share your expertise, there are certainly 4-H boys and girls who will be interested in learning.
- Job Description: Workshop Instructors prepare the materials and lead classes. Facilitators do not actually teach the class. Rather, they secure the teachers and the help organize the event. 4-H staff will assist with securing facilities, recruiting youth, and coordinating registration.
- Time Commitment: The time commitment varies depending on the topic. Some workshops are a one-time event that last a couple of hours. However, some topics are best taught over a period of time and may be taught as a series that meet once a week for 3-4 weeks for a couple of hours per week.
