STATE CONTEST

As many of you are starting to have and prepare for your County Contests, here is some information about State Contests. For additional information, please check out our website at: http://utah4h.org/htm/events/statecontests

Dates for State Contests: July 13-15, 2009

New Tracks: (3 hour tracks with a fun challenge at end)

- Project Funway

- Foods Challenge

- Robotics

- Geospatial (GPS/GIS)

- Video Production

Contest Changes:

- Many contests have time / day changes – please check out the Time Block schedule closely

- Entrepreneurship, Consumer Decision Making, and Hippology – no longer offered

- Ethnic Foods, Dairy Foods Prep, Egg Prep have been combined into Favorite Foods, FCS/Healthy Lifestyles Demonstrations - no longer a separate contest area but falls under 4-H Demonstrations

- Meal Preparation = Chef Extraordinaire, Quick Meal = Healthy Cuisine, Consumer Bowl = Life Skills Bowl, Other Demonstrations = 4-H Demonstrations

- 4-H Demonstrations has 3 categories = 1) Science, Engineering and Technology, 2) Healthy Living Education, and 3) Citizenship

- Fashion Revue – now has two categories – beginner and advanced

- Many contests also have slight changes made; please make sure your youth are using the current guidelines on our webpage.

- Please note that Fashion Revue and Fashion Consumer Strategies are now eligible for National Competition in Denver.

- Utah will not be sending teams to Denver in Hippology or Consumer Decision Making

Deadlines:

- Feb 17^th- Portfolios are due to the State 4-H Office

- July 1^st - Registration Deadline - NO EXCEPTIONS!!! Please make sure that all your registration has been entered and all fees have been paid. Registration will be taken off-line after July 1^st.

- July 1^st – Fashion Revue Personal Data Sheets and Talent Information Sheets are due to the State 4-H Office.

Costs:

Full Registration – Monday & Tuesday night lodging, ice cream, banquet, breakfast, dance, late-night party, t-shirt = $80
Extra Banquet = $15
Extra Breakfast = $8
Sunday night lodging = $16 (must know on July 1^st)
State Ambassadors = $40

Additional Notes:

There is no quota again this year on how many youth you may bring. However, we ask that you still hold some kind of qualifying event. We bring a lot of judges in and want to show them the best. It will also mean more to the youth if they earn/win the right to compete here.
We have marked certain contests that require the entire block. For these contests, participants are not allowed to register for any other contests held in the same time block (see the Time Block Schedule).
4-H’ers may participate in a maximum of three (3) State 4-H Contests, when scheduling allows. Please encourage the participants to use the time block schedule when deciding which contests they would like to compete in. (4-H Congress Interviews does not count as a contest, we just hold it at the same time for convenience to all involved.)
Contest winners are required to attend the awards program out of respect to donors and sponsors. Failure to appear will result in the loss of their award.
