
GARDEN CONTEST
Eligibility: Grades K-12 Cloverbud members, grades K-2, may participate but may not compete.
Team or Individual: Individually, as a family or as a club.
Kickoff: March (Watch for more information in newsletter or call the office at 801-468-3180.)
Registration Deadline: One week prior to garden contest kick-off event. If date falls on the weekend, the deadline will be the Friday before. Judging done by appointment.
Description: Contestants prepare, plant, and maintain their own gardens at their homes. Volunteer judges visit their garden during the summer to evaluate the garden and give helpful suggestions. The children keep a garden journal throughout the summer to track the maintenance and yield from their garden. In the fall, their garden journal is turned into the 4-H Office. Contestants are evaluated on the care and maintenance of their garden, yields from their garden, and their garden journals.

Awards: Cloverbuds receive participation ribbon. All other youth receives a certificate and earns a blue, red or white ribbons based on the Danish judging system:
· Blue (excellent): 90-100
· Red (good ): 75-89
· White (fair): 74 and below
The Senior Division blue ribbon winners may compete in State 4-H Contests in July. Partial scholarships given upon funding availability.
