4-H Basics

Starting out as a small Ohio club in 1902, the 4-H youth development program has grown to over 6 million members and over 500,000 volunteers nationwide. 4-H is for boys and girls, grades K-12 (4-H Age Policy). The program emphasizes "learning by doing" for the growth and development of youth of all backgrounds.

 At 4-H youth gain knowledge and skills in:4-H clover

  • Leadership
  • Teamwork
  • Responsibility (Revolution of Responsibility) 
  • Project Planning
  • Organizational Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Self-motivation
  • Citizenship

To develop self-directing, contributing and productive member of society

 

4-H is run through volunteer led clubs. 4-H clubs are a safe place to explore new interests, learn through trial and error and make new friends, all while having the support of a caring mentor. Each 4-H club meets at least 6 times a year and selects different projects based on their interests and completes these projects within their club

 

Project areas are a great way to not only develop interests but also to gain new life skills. (life skills model)
